The right tutor.
For your child.

Great teaching starts
with understanding your child.

Every student brings a different school experience, learning style and set of goals. Our approach to one-to-one tutor matching starts with understanding that individual context.

We believe that understanding should shape both the tutor match and the teaching itself. Our aim is to help students explain what they read and express their own ideas clearly in writing.

Understand the student

We look at challenges in school, current reading and writing experiences, and the goals the student wants to work towards.

Where are they getting stuck? What would help?

Find a thoughtful match

We consider the learning needs and ways of explaining that suit the student when discussing a tutor and a direction for lessons.

Not only the subject, but how the student learns.

Teach for deeper understanding

Our aim is to go beyond finding an answer: to help students understand the evidence behind it and communicate their thinking clearly.

Read, question, and explain in their own words.

More than a word.
A way into understanding.

We are developing an English vocabulary resource for international school students, with an interest in how words connect to reading and expression.

Great teaching starts
with the right partnership.

Listen to the student. Help them understand and express their thinking. We welcome teachers who share this approach and want to engage deeply with one student’s learning.

Teaching with understanding

  • Clear explanations

Teachers who can explain reading, grammar or writing in ways a student can understand.

  • Respect for each student

Teachers who listen to questions and ideas, and respect each student’s pace.

  • Reflective practice

Teachers who reflect on their explanations and feedback to keep improving their lessons.

A shared purpose

  • A match around your strengths

  • Meaningful one-to-one teaching

We want to explore teaching that pays attention to understanding and progress, rather than a fixed pace for everyone.

  • A shared conversation about teaching

We hope to exchange ideas about teaching and materials, and develop a shared standard for thoughtful lessons.
